Flinders Island Regional Arts Group manage and operate the Strait Works Gallery on the main street in Whitemark presenting a varied, regional representation from local artists and crafts people. Flinders Island Regional Arts branch (FIRA) aims to build a vibrant and diverse Island community through engagement and participation in arts and cultural activities. FIRA works with artists, organisations and our community to support the development, presentation and promotion of the arts on Flinders Island. Through collaboration across community groups and government agencies we deliver cultural projects, workshops and events that enrich and engage with the broader Island community whilst also providing local tourism benefits and opportunities. Our charter includes providing skills development and capacity building through the engagement of visiting visual and performing artists to the Island. The branch has been in operation for over twenty years and is run by a committed group of community volunteers. Our branch is part of a network of 26 statewide branches operating under the umbrella of the not for profit incorporated association, Tasmanian Regional Arts (TRA). TRA has offices and staff across the state and deliver a range of services and initiatives that enrich the Tasmanian cultural landscape. They also provide advocacy and support for regional arts in Tasmania and to its branches.
